Little pantry

It's been on the list for months. Now, since we have no money to do anything else, I have had time to make use of the space in the corner of the kitchen to make a closet/pantry.

With some MDF and some doors we bought from Ikea last year, I started work.

The space that needed filling. Started with some 45degree cut edges

Little Roofs

The old roofs were very ugly and made of clear plastic aged to green and nasty. And they were painted pink

I took them down and had some new ones rebuilt. Less obtrusive as they don't have pillars. Then painted them white and covered the top with metal:

Laundry Room

Whilst the guys were here, they built a wall to separate the laundry and store/mechanical rooms.

I put up drywall and  new door to divide the 2 spaces. We also filled in a big hole in the concrete floor, remembering to leave the drain clear-out exposed.

We just need to decorate, add new lights and a new floor and it'll be a usable space.

New beam to strengthen the floor. The existing beams are too small for  the span, it's an old house so these things happen.

Preparing for new walls

All the electrical cabling is buried into the walls, but now it's getting too old to  be safely used we need to replace.

The hassle of digging out the old cabling and embedding the new is so great that we can't really do it. We also want to add drywall to the walls to make it look and feel nicer and less like the basement vibe the concrete walls give.

So, we had the place framed out with new studs. I thought about doing it, but it took our guys a day, it'd have taken me a month so here are the results.

The living room looking toward the kitchen

This is the 'hallway' between the living and kitchen. On the left we built a recess for the fridge to give more space to the kitchen. In the middle will be a little closet and on the right i will build shelving
